White House Down review

Roland Emmerich sure does like destroying up the White House.
White House Down is the new movie from the director of Independence Day and it's about some criminals seeking revenge that take over the White House. But, one man is left on the inside to save the president and his daughter and kick some terrorist ass. So, basically the same plot as Olympus Has Fallen. Let's get something straight. White House Down isn't a good film. It has a pretty generic plot, the acting is sub-par, and the writing is nothing special. Put all of it's problems aside and you can enjoy White House Down for its action and cool car chase scenes. Plus, it'd be pretty cool to have Jamie Foxx as president (Django and Ray Charles all in one president? Awesome!). This movie may emulate Die Hard too much, but it's hard not to! Die Hard is such a perfect action movie, that it's almost been the blueprint for successful action movies since then. Although, I can't forgive White House Down on all it's mistakes. It takes itself way too seriously sometimes and there were some obvious mistakes in the editing. Also, Roland Emmerich referenced his own movie in his own movie. That is unacceptable. Channing Tatum has come a long way. He used to star in crap like The Vow. And although he's not as good here as he was in 21 Jump Street, he's still pretty cool. Jamie Foxx is good in a lot of things. He won an Oscar for Ray, and he scored a nomination for Collateral. The guys a good actor, no doubt about it. Here, he plays an Obama-esque president named James Sawyer. His acting job isn't even half as good as some of his past roles, but he's fun to watch and easy to root for. Joey King plays Emily, Channing Tatum's character's daughter, and she is annoying. It's not really her fault as it is the writer's fault. She has a bunch of stupid lines and a lot of the things her character does just made me angry. The movie could have done without her. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays some Secret Service worker, but her performance is just okay. She played a similar character to Rachel in The Dark Knight, but she's never really wowed me. So overall the movie is alright. It could of been better. If you want some mindless explosions and awesome action, this is the film for you. Hey, I enjoyed it. I give White House Down 3.4 out of 5 stars. Happy Viewing! You can follow me on Twitter @WhitsMovies and like me on Facebook at Facebook.com/WhitsMovies!
