Identity Thief review

Let's get something straight. I thought Melissa McCarthy was great in Identity Thief. She was fresh and funny. The movie as a whole? Not so much. Identity Thief is about a working-class dad named Sandy Patterson played by Jason Bateman who gets his identity stolen by a Florida criminal played by Melissa McCarthy. Bateman's character goes down to Florida to get the thief and bring her back to his hometown in Colorado for justice. That's the movie. It had it's laughs but mainly it was far fetched and cheesy. It had a weird side plot about drug dealers and Robert Patrick played this strange bounty hunter-ish guy who seemed unnecessary. I have to say I had higher hopes for this movie. Now it's not awful and McCarthy manages to bring in a few laughs, even Jason Bateman does an okay job, but the rest of the movie just falls flat. It's just not that good. If it were, say, a television show, it would be great, but as a movie it isn't very good. If you're going to see a movie this weekend I recommend you see the great thriller Side Effects, or the Oscar nominated revenge move Django Unchained. My opinion? Skip Identity Thief. I give it 2.9 out of 5 stars. Happy Viewing. Don't forget to follow me on Twitter @WhitsMovies and like me on Facebook at Facebook.com/WhitsMovies.

  1. Solid review Whit. The movie just doesn't offer anything new for the road trip genre and it makes me like Melissa McCarthy even more than I already did, but still be upset with the choices Jason Bateman has as an actor.
